Archery is the sport of shooting a target with a bow and arrow to win the highest points. Two types of bows are used in para-archery: the recurve bow and the compound bow, which has cams or wheels on the ends. Team competitions have one event and use only the recurve bow, whereas the individual competitions have four events for men and three events for women. Archers compete in one of three classes depending on their impairment type and level: W1 (tetraplegia, wheelchair), W2 (paraplegia or a comparable impairment, wheelchair), ST (standing or sitting on a chair). Depending on the type and level of an athlete’s impairment, equipment can be modified to adapt to the athlete's needs.
